Adoring Parents
Wonder Before the Child
An original Indweller design (rendered with AI) depicting Mary and Joseph in quiet adoration before the infant Jesus, capturing the wonder of two parents beholding not only their child, but their Messiah.
The story
Story Behind the Sculpture
Adoring Parents focuses on one of the most intimate mysteries of the Nativity: Mary and Joseph alone with the newborn Jesus.
Their attention is completely fixed upon Him. There is tenderness in the scene, but also reverence. They understand that the child entrusted to their care is unlike any other.
Jesus is their son, yet He is also their Savior and Messiah.
The sculpture captures that extraordinary intersection of parental love and worship—Mary and Joseph gazing upon their child with awe at the mystery of God made flesh.
What the details mean
Symbolism in the Sculpture
Jesus — Child and Messiah
The infant Jesus is the center of the composition. For Mary and Joseph, He is both the child they will nurture and protect and the long-awaited Messiah they themselves have awaited. Their posture before Him reflects both relationships at once.
Mary’s Adoration
Mary’s attention is entirely directed toward her Son. Her presence recalls the humility of the woman who accepted God’s will at the Annunciation and now contemplates the fulfillment of that promise before her.
Joseph’s Awe
Joseph shares Mary’s wonder. Entrusted with protecting Jesus and raising Him as his son, Joseph nevertheless stands before the child as a believer before his Savior.
The Gaze of the Parents
The composition draws the eyes of Mary and Joseph toward Jesus, inviting the viewer to follow their gaze. In this way, they become models of adoration, directing attention away from themselves and toward Christ.
An Image for Eucharistic Adoration
The contemplative character of Adoring Parents makes it particularly meaningful for an Adoration Chapel or Eucharistic Chapel.
Mary and Joseph model the response at the heart of Eucharistic adoration: to remain quietly in the presence of Jesus, attentive to Him in love, reverence, and awe.

Scripture reflection
Scripture Reflection
“They went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.” — Luke 2:16
The shepherds came seeking the Messiah and found Him within the Holy Family. Adoring Parents draws us into the stillness before their arrival: Mary and Joseph contemplating the child who is at once their Son and the Savior of the world.
