The story
Story Behind the Sculpture
Hands of Hope was created for the Malachi House interment site at Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio, a final resting place provided for residents of Malachi House.
Malachi House provides compassionate end-of-life care to terminally ill individuals with limited financial resources and no available caregiver. That commitment continues after death through an interment program that provides residents with a dignified final resting place.
The reaching hands give visual expression to that mission—a final gesture of care, connection, dignity, and hope.
What the details mean
Symbolism
The Reaching Hands
One hand reaches toward another, expressing the human connection at the heart of the Malachi House mission—the assurance that even at the end of life, no one need be alone.
The Space Between the Hands
The small separation acknowledges the reality of death while suggesting that love and human connection extend beyond physical separation.
The Upward Reach
The movement of the hands draws the eye upward, transforming a gesture of farewell into one of hope.
Created for Places of Remembrance
Although created specifically for Malachi House, Hands of Hope can bring a meaningful message of compassion and hope to Catholic cemeteries, hospice memorials, mausoleums, columbaria, memorial gardens, and other places of remembrance.

Scripture Reflection
Isaiah 41:13
“For I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, Do not fear, I will help you.”
The image of an outstretched hand beautifully reflects the ministry behind Hands of Hope: accompanying another person with compassion and dignity through the final stages of life.
