Life-size St. Carlo Acutis sculpture
Highway to Heaven
An original Indweller sculpture depicting Saint Carlo Acutis as the ordinary modern teenager he was, carrying the tools of his everyday life and faith while pointing others toward the Eucharist—his “highway to heaven.”
The story
Highway to Heaven deliberately presents Carlo Acutis as the young person his peers would have recognized. His casual clothing and backpack make him immediately familiar, especially to the students who encounter the sculpture on a Catholic school campus.
In one hand Carlo holds a laptop, recalling his remarkable use of technology to document Eucharistic miracles around the world. Rather than allowing technology to distract him from his faith, Carlo used it as a tool for evangelization.
The imagery on the laptop brings the sculpture's message into focus: a monstrance, a highway and a setting sun. Together they recall Carlo's famous description of the Eucharist as his “highway to heaven.”
Carlo's life was brief, but his witness was remarkably clear. Holiness did not require him to leave the modern world behind. He lived within it while keeping Christ at the center—and showed other young people that they can do the same.

What the details mean

Carlo's laptop represents his use of technology in service of the Gospel. His website documenting Eucharistic miracles became one of the defining works of his short life.

The Rosary reflects another important part of Carlo's devotional life and his love for the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The backpack strengthens the image of Carlo as a student. He was not removed from the concerns and routines of young people; his faith was lived in the midst of them.
The relief on the laptop depicts a monstrance beside a highway leading toward the horizon. It gives physical form to Carlo's understanding of the Eucharist as his “highway to heaven.”
Carlo is intentionally dressed as a contemporary teenager rather than in traditional saintly garments. His ordinary appearance reinforces one of the most compelling aspects of his witness: holiness is possible in everyday life.

About the saint
Saint Carlo Acutis (1991–2006) was an Italian teenager known for his devotion to the Eucharist and his ability to use modern technology in service of his Catholic faith.
A gifted computer enthusiast, Carlo created an online exhibition documenting Eucharistic miracles from around the world. Daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration and prayer were central to his spiritual life.
Carlo died of leukemia in 2006 at only fifteen years old. His remarkably ordinary appearance and extraordinary interior life have made him a particularly powerful witness for young Catholics: sainthood is not confined to another century or another kind of life.
